GALLERY. Link!Convinced to leave the Wood at a young age by his best friend, Talys spent much of his time growing up in Rabanastre before the Garleans attacked. He and his friend lived happily together working odd jobs... but the Garleans destroyed everything. Gone was their carefree youth, replaced with cold, hard cynicism and a "fuck you, got mine" attitude after losing his dear friend.Talys was forced to serve the Garlean military as a conscript, putting his magical prowess to use against the people of Dalmasca. He thrived in battle, truly coming alive while killing and even willingly underwent experiments to attempt to bolster his magical prowess.

SPECIFICS
TALYS'S FRIEND. I have another character in mind for Talys's dead friend, but if you have a character that fits and would like to coordinate backstories, I'd absolutely be here for it! The only things set in stone are that the friend must be a Rava Viera from the Golmorre Jungle. Obviously the character doesn't need to actually be dead - Talys never saw his friend's body, after all!MAGIC. The magic Talys wields is primarily rooted in thaumaturgy, enhanced further by contact with the Void. Unlike Black Magic, it relies on his own personal aether and can be wielded by drawing on the aether of others - essentially, he's capable of blood magic. Using too much of this magic will quite literally bleed him dry, though he's a deft hand at conjuration as well to heal his own wounds. Using others' blood is also a possibility, and one he will resort to should it be necessary (or if enemies are bleeding near him).

CONSCRIPT. Though starting at the bottom as a conscript serving in Dalmasca, Talys made quite the name for himself as a mage and willing participant in some Garlean experiments. He served since the fall of Rabanastre (30+ years) and even earned the title of oen.EXPERIMENTS. The exact specifics of the experiments run on Talys seem to have been lost in the chaos following Dalmasca's rebellion and the fall of the Empire, but he is notably stronger than most mages. Wielding magic that is somewhere between thaumaturgy and Black Magic, Talys has enhanced reflexes and a keen sense of the battlefield at all times - even his long-range fire blasts are expertly placed to avoid his allies. Physically he seems unchanged, but his aether seems tainted, almost as though the void has begun to seep in...GARLEMALD'S FALL. Talys faithfully served through Dalmasca's rebellion, only finally leaving the Garleans after the fall of the Empire. Since then, he's been working odd jobs as a mercenary, but has found very little to hold his interest. His desire to fight, to kill, remains just as strong as ever, and there's very little that can pose a proper threat to him.VOX. While Talys has little care for Garlemald and its glory, he is a dog without a leash and would offer it to Vox to have a purpose again. Particularly if it means growing ever-stronger - he seeks power in whatever form it may take, although he is a vain individual who would greatly prefer to avoid becoming a machine.
